Description

Few builders are able to produce a full line of ultra-high quality stringed instruments like Collings. Whether it is an acoustic or an electric, a guitar or mandolin, Collings makes some of the most superior products in virtually all categories. The 2017 Collings OM42A Koa offered here is yet another confirmation of this.

This beautiful OM is a 25-1/2" scale instrument with 14 frets free of the body. It started as an OM3, their top of the food chain OM model. It was then given over $5K of upgrades, including but not limited to, an Adirondack Spruce top and braces, figured Koa for the back and sides, 42-style abalone top trim and rosette and an added inlay on the headstock. It has a Honduran Mahogany neck with marvelous figuring that makes it look like flame Maple! It has Collings' very comfortable Modified V neck shape with depth measurements of .840" at the first fret and .930" at the ninth fret. It has Black Ebony fretboard with 14"-16" compound radius, medium nickel-silver frets, 2-3/16" string spacing and a 1-3/4" bone nut. It has an Ebony belly bridge with a bone drop-in saddle.

Play it and you will immediately notice how very light (4.0 pounds) and responsive this guitar is, even by Collings' very high standards. Notes ring out bright, clear and distinct and chords are rich with lots of overtones. Please check out the provided SoundCloud sample and hear for yourself. The playability of this instrument is nearly effortless with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side.

This 2017 built guitar has no flaws of any significance and could pass for new. Just a few light marks on the pickguard. The frets show no observable evidence of wear. Used acoustics don not come much cleaner than this! It comes in its original case in similarly nice condition.

A new example of this model with all these upgrades would cost you over $10K at Collings' 2021 prices. Get this fabulous and near mint example for substantially less. Highly recommended!
