Offered here is an instrument that is an eye-opener for me, a 2016 Composite Acoustics GX.
The GX is a grand concert-sized, 14-fret guitar with a 25.5" string scale. It has a 1.75" nut width with 2.25" string spacing. It has a sleek neck shape with depth measurements of .81" at the 1st fret, tapering up to .86" at the 12th fret. The smooth, composite fretboard has a 14" radius with medium-sized stainless steel fret wire. A quality Fishman Prefix Plus T system is factory installed for amplified playing. It is beautifully built with a dark, wine red gloss finish.
I have heard much about the revolutionary design and construction specs of this guitar, with it's carbon fiber construction allowing for an instrument that is incredibly rigid, strong and impervious to changes in temperature and humidity. This is a guitar that you can take out onto the patio or beach, or throw into the trunk of a cold car without concern.
What I wasn't prepared for with this guitar, however, were it's amazing tone and playability! The CA GX has a clear tone that isn't harsh. While it has quite a bit of note to note definition and clarity, it still has a natural sound that I did not expect from a composite guitar. In fact, the GX's tone has more warmth than most Maple-based acoustic guitars that I've played.
Playing the GX is a joy. It's light weight (approximately 5.5 lbs.) and smooth body contours make for great playing comfort. It is superbly setup with 12th fret strings heights of 5/64" on both the low and high sides by my measurements. It plays with an ease that will remind you of an electric guitar. With it's superb Fishman electronics, it is stage ready right out of the box.
While this is my first Composite Acoustics instrument, it will not be my last - I'm a believer! This 2016 model has seen only very light play and handling and is in near mint condition. The stainless steel frets are impervious to wear. It comes in it's original molded CA hardshell case with the paperwork. A new (carbon black finish) example can be had for $2,800 but this near new wine red example can be yours for a 25% less. Make it yours - you will be glad you did!
