Description

1966 D’Aquisto New Yorker Special in excellent condition. Serial number 1012, signed and dated James L D’Aquisto 10/20/1966. This is the 12th guitar built by D’Aquisto. The condition is exceptional, most of its life this guitar has been stored away and unplayed. This is the first time the guitar has been offered for sale since new! The F holes and D’Angelico style peghead showcase the 1960’s elements that carried over from the D’Angelico New Yorker Special. As time went on, the instrument was brought back to D’Aquisto’s shop for various upgrades. This is the earliest version of the wooden tailpiece, the wooden pickguard was added as well, also the Schaller tuners. All work was done by D’Aquisto. This was built for Sal DiTroia, and most likely on many of his recordings. It was fit with at least two different floating pickups over the years. The holes from mounting brackets on the edge of the fingerboard are evidence of such. The binding is in excellent condition with some minor cracking on the headstock but otherwise all intact. The neck is a comfortable low profile oval shape and the original frets play flawlessly throughout. In the short time this guitar has been in the shop the sound has developed dramatically. It sat unused and unplayed for many years and despite that is responsive and dynamic. With regular playing this guitar will once again be the tone by which all other archtops are judged. It is an amazing mix of early and mid 70s features that create a one of a kind experience. Uncirculated D’Aquistos in this condition do not come around often. A rare opportunity for the collector or well heeled player.
