Guillermo Del Pilar was a most highly-respected builder of professional-grade classic guitars here in New York from the 1950s though the1990s. As a young aspirant to the world of guitar making and repair-restoration, I spent quite a bit of time in his workshop in the early 1960s and got to know him well; he was quite a wonderful man. This guitar came to me from the family of a musician who had owned it for many, many years, possibly the original owner, and it is in excellent, unaltered condition, never having needed any work of any kind. The back and sides are of stunning, dark, extraordinarily straight-grained Brazilian rosewood; the top is of what appears to be German or other European spruce and it is unusually finely grained. The varnish finish is also exceptionally beautiful and has a deep coloration overall; the back of the neck has either had its finish removed or never had any, difficult to say which, for especially smooth playing. The tones are impressive and remarkable; clear, full, and strong across the entire range, as only a Brazilian rosewood guitar can have. The action is perfect at its original height and extremely pleasant to play. Classical guitars of this caliber rarely come on the market today for less than $7000-8000; we offer this gorgeous Del Pilar at $3995 w/ohsc
