Description

This vintage Epiphone 1964 Casino E230TDV is a fantastic example of an iconic guitar model. Notably made famous for being played by the Beatles, the Casino is a Kalamazoo-made thinline archtop, manufactured by Gibson under their Epiphone line, and similar to its ES-330 model. This Casino has had the original tailpiece replaced in favor of a Bigsby, a swap favored by many players. The original vibrato tailpiece is included in the case.

The Gibson tune-o-matic bridge had been flipped around when the guitar arrived at the shop, but is intonating properly and, as such, we've left it as is. The pickups are the original chrome-covered P-90s, and the electronics all appear to be original parts that were known to be used at the Kalamazoo factory, with one visible code dating to 1963. Here with the earlier, more compact headstock design, before the later tapered versions, this Casino screams early-60s vintage specs. We wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the first Casinos to go out the door in '64.

There is finish wear on the back of the guitar, possibly from something left in the case and resting against the guitar (see photos). There are also finish impressions on the top from the original tailpiece. The pickguard is not included. There is a custom made pickup riser installed to raise the bridge pickup for a more balanced output with the neck pickup. The internal label lists the guitar as an E230TD, missing the V for the original vibrato tailpiece. The original 1964 sales receipt that is included accurately lists the guitar as an E230TDV (see photos). Here with minimal fretwear, this 1964 Casino includes the original blue-lined grey hardshell case.
