Summary: Ernie Ball only had one line of acoustic guitars and basses and this gig-worn Earthwood dreadnought is a great example of the very few acoustic guitars ever produced by Ernie Ball. It has a bolt on neck for easy neck resets and action adjustments. This vintage Ernie Ball has Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, pickuard and bridge. The Earthwood has a crystal clear sounding passive pickup that was a staple for the short-lived Earthwood line. It has a few minor top cracks that have been repaired a while ago, finish checking on the top and lots of wear through the lacquer on the maple neck. It has just been setup and restrung with a new set of 12s and ships in a hardshell case.

Body: Big bodied dreadnought with solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, wood binding, Brazilian rosewood pickguard and large soundhole. 4 5/8” deep, 16 ¾” wide, 20 ¼” long.

Neck: Maple bolt-on neck with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, white dot inlays, 1 11/16” nut width, 25 ½” scale length and big headstock with adjustable truss rod.

Pickups/Hardware: It has the original Ernie Ball passive pickup, rosewood-bridge, bone saddle and the original set of very unique and smooth working “Pat Pending” Grover tuners with pearloid buttons.

Cosmetics: This guitar has plenty of play wear consistent with a well-worn and played in acoustic from 1972. There is plenty of finish checking, wear through the finish around the sound hole, arm rest area and back of neck. Some shallow divots in the rosewood fingerboard around the first position and various dings and dents around the body as well as some minor buckle rash. There are some repaired cracks in the top visible by the dark color they have turned either from the repair or old age. The cracks appear structurally stable and as long as the guitar is cared for and kept at the right humidity range (40%-60%) it should play for many more years.

Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung this guitar with a new set of 12s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functioning and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots. They may have been leveled recently because they are a little bit low and you would expect a bit more wear on the frets of a guitar with this much cosmetic playwear. They are still very playable and the guitar has a rich, bass tone with great clarity.
