Description

Earl Scruggs' personal Faulkner custom top tension banjo. Made for Earl Scruggs in 1970-71. This is a great sounding and incredibly historically significant banjo. This is a rare opportunity to own a banjo that was actually used on stage by Earl Scruggs (see photos). It still retains the same head, strap, and bridge from when Earl last used the banjo. The great Robin Smith (RIP) dressed the frets 2-3 years ago. Earl Scruggs was well known to highly personalize his instruments with his trusty engraving pen, and this Faulkner banjo is no exception. You will find Earl's engraved signature all over the banjo, as well as an inscription on the inside of the resonator. The original case is also an incredible collector's item, featuring a hand written address on the case pocket. Jim Faulkner was one of the early pioneers of replica flathead tone rings and this banjo features one of those great early rings. Mahogany neck, with ebony fingerboard. Walnut Resonator. There are many sections of the resonator binding that have broken off, (see photos). I've saved the binding pieces and have decided to let the new owner make the decision on how to proceed with either repair or replacement. It has been an honor to own and play this banjo but it is time for it to move on to its next caretaker. Serious inquiries only. Please email noam@vintagebanjo.com if you have any questions or would like additional information.
