As the years go by, rarely do I find myself sitting back and saying, "Damn, today was a great day," but yesterday, 1/18/2023 was one of those glorious days. I got some news that I was waiting on and it turned out to be fantastic, which literally made me go outside, look up at the sun and say, "Thank You." That and this guitar arrived on my doorstep. Not quite a hat trick, but a solid twofer...

Yesterday was so great that nothing could knock me off my game or throw sand in my boots. I opened this Strat up and for once in a long time, I saw only the good things about it rather than picking it apart. It got the usual 'Elk treatment of being detailed and restrung with fresh strings, but I wasn't quite satisfied with the setup (here's where the day got even better) so I called up our tech, the peerless "El Hefe" and asked if I could get in a rush operation on this girl and like the cherry on my day's cake, he said to bring it on up to him. Forty-five minutes later, I was leaving with one of the best-playing Fenders in the shop and yes, there was a spring in my step and a grin on my face. Elks truly do grin, you know...

Now to what we actually have- this Anniversary Strat weighs in at a respectable (for these guitars) 10 lbs, 3 oz. It's not a shoulder boulder and I test-drove the old girl for half an hour with no complaints. There is the requisite slight "greening" of the silver finish, but it's only a testament that this guitar has not sat in a glass case on somebody's wall for the last 43 years. There are some pick swirls and circling scratches on the pickguard, but I called Fender to inquire about these and they assured me that the entire purpose of a pickguard was to guard against pick swirls, so let's all just say "job well done" in this instance.

We have a very nice overall package around this Strat and as previously mentioned, it's been detailed and set up for optimal performance. While you may not always get "perfectly unplayed or untouched by human hands" here at Southern Elk, you'll always get our best and that hopefully leads to... you guessed it- you getting this guitar and having that great day. Surf's up, folks and the sun's out- let's enjoy what we have while we have it! Time's a-wastin'!
