Well the serial number on the neck plate shows as 1968, even though the date Fender stamped on the end of the neck is 9 SEPT 66A, and the pots date to 1966. The pickguard has obviously never been removed and we’re not about to disturb that beautiful, original assembly but we do have some great info by email from a very knowledgeable fan of ours out there in cyberspace, regarding how this came to be: “Fender had a large surplus of 1966 dated 22.5" scale necks and used them thru the end of the 60's. Same with pots. 1968 is probably the more correct date b/c that is when it was assembled / sold”. It is in fact one heck of a very cool guitar, with its Candy Apple Red finish (with matching headstock!), those fab white racing stripes, and the sound and feel that only a Fender Mustang can give you. Just set up real nicely right here in our own shop; all original parts, right down to the original trem bar and handguard; we even went over and serviced both pickup selector switches to ensure that they’re working properly, something that’s almost always overlooked. Interestingly, it has a Fender hard shell case from an earlier era, one of those cool brown ones. Saddle up folks, and ride! $2495 w/hsc .
