Description

A 100% original EX+++ clean 1958 Tweed Deluxe amp that spent most of it’s life in a closet, a very clean example! 100% original including caps, transformers, resistors, power cord, handle. An untouched example right down to the tubes, which bear 1958 or late 1957 date codes. Has the scarce misprinted “5F6” Tube Chart label that 1958 is known for. Date stamped HE for May, 1958 on the tube chart, as well as the inside of the chassis. Handle is immaculate with no breaks to it, original P12R speaker dates to late 1957: # 220746. Plated control plate is free of corrosion & pitting, the numbering & lettering is perfect.

This amp came with a guitar that was in equally clean condition, both appear to be in almost un-played, (but the guitar is not for sale). With no changed caps, this is a great example for the museum as 100% original, or a great studio or living room amp after some basic servicing.

Amp has a few fray marks to the tweed in the corners, & a few light fray marks on the side, but these are not pronounced. The only real issue to point out on this amp, is that some dust collected on the top over the years of sitting idle. There is a slightly darker color to the top of the tweed in these spots. This is not really noticeable, but I have had several amps that I consider “mint”, which spent their lives under a cover, and this amp did not have that luxury. One slight mark to the grill cloth is not an issue but again, keeps this example from being in the pantheon of truly “mint” condition amps. The speaker cone is ribbed and not flat. Solder joints look original on the speaker terminal, but I do not know if this speaker has ever been re-coned.

Tweed Deluxe’s are well loved for their warm full tone and sonic depth, with the ability to break up at a volume level which doesn’t chase you out of the room. This amp should meet your sonic expectations for that Fender Tweed Deluxe tonal palette. All vintage amps are fragile and subject to damage in shipping. This amp has not been serviced to maintain original status. Purchaser should anticipate servicing the amp if they intent to play it. Amp is sold “as-is due to the uncertainties of the shipping process.
