Up for sale, a 2003 Fender Custom Shop Relic '55 reissue Precision Bass in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Finished in "Dirty White Blonde" this Closet Classic has beautiful lacquer checking and light, simulated wear on the chrome hardware to approximate a bass that has been sparingly played and only lightly worn, with a vintage aesthetic that looks very authentic and honest. The lightweight ash body has a very deep and resonant tone, with the top end attack and clarity of a one-piece quartersawn maple neck. Strung with medium tension flatwounds, the bass has great string to string balance and the Custom Shop '55 P-Bass single coil is wound specifically for this limited edition reissue. The rich and complex midrange quality of the ash body and string through construction makes for a bass that has great cut and a low fundamental thump. Weighing in at 8lbs 12oz, this P-Bass is easy on the back, very well balanced on a strap, and has been professionally setup with comfortable action and solid intonation.

The quartersawn one-piece maple neck has a full C shaped profile with rolled fretboard edges and generous shoulders, filling the palm and feeling very substantial. The fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4" radius with 20 original frets that also are faithful to the original design, with well rounded crowns and fairly slender width. The frets show virtually no wear and the bass plays very well up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. The headstock sports all the hallmarks of this early Precision model, with large clover button reverse tuning gears and a smaller Telecaster-style headstock profile. The Fender waterslide decal is mint on the headstock face, and the Custom Shop logo is present on the reverse side.

The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should and are untouched since this bass left the Fender factory. All of the Custom Shop markings are present on the body and neck, with "Relic" stamps beneath the pickguard, beneath the neck plate, and in both the neck pocket and on the back of the neck heel. The date of production is clearly stamped inn the neck pocket, and in the pickup cavity, "55 CC" is stamped denoting the year being reissued and the Closet Classic status of the bass. All of the vintage correct touches are present on this faithful reissue, including the knurled metal knobs, two saddle bridge (with R prefix serial number stamped on the plate), single screw wooden finger rest, seven hole one-ply pickguard, and original "ashtray" pickup covers. The body reflects the changes made to the Precision Bass model in '55, with a contoured body that boasts a deep belly cut for greater comfort while playing, in addition to a forearm contour on the face of the bass. While difficult to faithfully capture in the photos, the blonde finish highlights the deep and prominent grain of the ash body, and aside from the tasteful light relic wear from the factory, this bass has virtually no cosmetic wear!

The original tweed hardshell case is included, in addition to the manual, polish cloth, and sticker.
