This Fender Artist Series Sting signature '51 P Bass is another recent acquisition from a huge collection.
Most of the instruments in the collection were purchased new and rarely played, if ever. This is the case for the bass you see here - there is little evidence that it has ever been handled, and the original gig bag and a fistful of paperwork is included - including the serial numbered hang tag.
The protective plastic layer on the pickguard remains intact.
The bass plays perfectly and it is a pretty light example as well, weighing in at just under 9 pounds, 3 ounces.
The neck is adorned with the Crafted in Japan label and a P serial number that shows it was built between 1999 and 2002. These instruments don't have other ways to nail down the date they were made, so that is your range.
