Description

1960 Fender Large Box Tweed Princeton. These are great amps for the classic Fender 1950’s overdriven sound at tolerable volumes. The Fender Champ gets a lot of glory, but the Princeton with its additional tone knob is a better circuit. The Tweed Champ has a darker tone, which can’t be adjusted – not a problem on the noble Princeton. The tone knob adds some clarity that the Champ doesn’t have. I’ve owned every version of the Princeton made, from Woodies, to Vertical Tweed to the Princeton Reverb: they are great amps. Original transformers. Power transformer dates to early 1960, pots to late 1959. JC date stamp on tube charts puts this one at March of 1960. This has been serviced with the needed caps redone, but the original grey cord is untouched. Original caps that were removed are included with the amp. Still retains the critical original orange Astron caps. The speaker is a replacement 1958 8” that has been re-coned. The handle is rough but original. The cabinet and the baffle board both show the same matched hand written “104” pencil code. Some fraying to the tweed at the edges, and the usual wear for a 62-year-old amp. Ready for another 60 years of use. Will be well packed for shipping, packed in bubble wrap and solid Styrofoam. All amps are sold “as is” due to the nature of shipping old electronics, but this will be as well packed as anybody packs amps. $100 Shipping.
