Here we have a Fender Silverface Princeton Reverb from 1980. Production of the amp ended in 1981, wrapping up the era of the handwired amps that closely resembled those that changed everything in the mid 60s.

This one crossed my bench needing a little attention. I immediately found that the speaker was part of the problem - it was sounding loose and inarticulate, and honestly a bit nasty at mid to high volumes. I dropped the Alessandro speaker in and found it to be a huge improvement. The original speaker will be included with the amp, but it does need to be reconed.

I also found that the bias was off - the power tubes were running a bit hot and the sound still wasn't there. I replaced a resistor, diode, and capacitor in the bias section, swapped out the power and rectifier tubes and the issue cleared right up. The original parts are included.

Cosmetically, the amp isn't perfect but it certainly isn't beat either.

Even from this later period, the Princeton is pretty much the ideal amp. It'll sound great at low volumes and will keep up with a band in the practice room. It is an easy tote to the stage, just mic it up and have the best tone in town.
