Summary: The Telecaster Custom launched in 1972 with a newly designed humbucker pickup in in its neck position. Previously, Fender had produced a guitar called the Custom Telecaster which only differed from the regular Telecaster in its finish options and binding. Since 1972, reference to any Telecaster Custom or Custom Telecaster typically means the humbucker '70s version. This particular guitar is a 1976 Fender Tele Custom in a black finish with a maple neck. This guitar looks, sounds & feels totally awesome – this is a tone machine.
Body: Single cutaway solid body electric guitar
Neck: Maple neck with a maple fingerboard, dot inlays & Fender “F” tuning keys. This guitar has a nut width of 1 9/16” and a scale length of 25.5”. This guitar has been re-fretted and the frets are in good shape with lots of life left in them.
Pickups/Hardware: One single coil & one humbucker pickup, 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs, original “F” Fender tuning keys, chrome hardware.
Cosmetics: This tele has started to develop the classic checking marks in the black finish and it looks awesome. This guitar does have several nicks & dings on the body & it does have some buckle rash on the back of the instrument, all consistent with an instrument that has been played and loved since the mid 1970’s. This guitar is totally structurally sound. There is some wear around the edges of the body & along the edges of the neck but all of this just ads to the mojo of this fine guitar.
Playability: When you think about owning a vintage Fender Telecaster this is the kind of instrument you are hoping for! This guitar plays easily with low action & no fret buzzing or dead spots. This guitar has been professionally set up by our in-house tech with 10’s and it is ready to be played and loved.
