Description

Offered for your consideration is this exceptionally clean and almost entirely original first generation Telecaster Thinline built in 1969. This example is serial number 257913.

The Thinline was first introduced in 1968 in response to the increasing weight of Telecaster guitars of that period. The body is produced using a solid piece of ash or mahogany which was hollowed out from the rear. The hollowed out body was then routed for its electronics and the back piece then carefully glued into place.

This early single coil Thinline has an ash body and is finished in "Natural". It has a total weight of just 6 pounds, 3 ounces with no neck dive when strapped on. It has a one-piece maple neck with the walnut "skunk stripe" and depth measurements of .874" at the first fret increasing to .926" at the twelfth fret. The neck is date stamped May, 1969. It still has its original frets. All the electronics appear original, although I'm told that the bridge pickup was previously rewound by Mark Brantley Rewinds to original specs. The pots are coded 304-6545.

The condition of this guitar is exceptional. It shows one small area of finish wear down to the wood near the input jack, but that is the worst of its flaws. It also shows a few impressions here and there as shown in the photos, but these are not easily seen. One tiny little finish check emanates from under the neck plate. The original frets are quite playable with approximately 25% of their useful life remaining. The back of the neck has been very lightly sanded to eliminate the tacky feeling common to Fender finishes. Overall, this is one of the cleanest examples of an early Thinline that I have come across. It comes in its original black tolex case along with the "ashtray" bridge cover.

This is an exceptional vintage Telecaster and is amazing condition for its 50+ years. It is light and a pleasure to play. It sounds great too. Please check out the brief sound sample below. Click the 'Buy Now' button and make this lovely vintage Telecaster Thinline yours today!
