1954 Fender Tweed Pro Amp 5D5

This 1954 Fender 5D5 Pro amp is recent acquisition that added a new dimension to our tweed assortment. This and the Super are my two favorite wide-panel tweed amps.
The 5D5 evolved from the 5C5 model, moving to 12AX7 preamp tubes from the 6SC7s used in the 5D5. Among other changes that combined to improved the tone of the amp, this one made it simpler to swap tubes.
This 5D5 sounds killer. Its got sag and rich output distortion to die for. The 15" speaker lends to the distinct tone of this particular model. There is a good deal of low end, but not too much, and the amp just sort of "chugs" in a way that lets you head and feel the sound.
The amp is running nicely. The transformers are original. The filter caps have been updated and a grounded power cable installed. The standby switch was replaced with a vintage-looking replacement. Otherwise, the circuit is original.
The original P15N speaker remains. The tweed and grill cloth are original. The handle is a replacement. The upper back panel was replaced as well and aged a bit to keep it from sticking out as a new part.
We will ship this amp in two boxes - one for the cabinet and one for the chassis. This will help prevent something we've seen happen to other amps. Due to the girth of the power transformer, the chassis can be bent/distorted in shipping. If the amp is dropped somewhere in shipment, the weight of the transformer transfers stress to the chassis, bending it permanently. Assembling the amp is pretty simple, and we can walk you through it.
