Description

Offered for your consideration is this cool GT Cedar by Chris Forshage. Chris builds guitars by hand (no CNC machines) in very small quantities out of his shop near Austin. Texas. He is primarily known for his archtops and his unique obelisk-shaped headless electric, the Orion, but he also builds "conventional" electrics such as this GT from time to time. This is of course Chris' unique interpretation of the iconic Telecaster design.

While it looks like a Tele, this guitar has a slightly offset shaped solid body that is made of cedar, a tonewood known for its sweet tone and extended harmonics. It is a very light and resonant and weighs just 6 pounds, 3 ounces. The body is finished in satin Shoreline Gold nitrocellulous lacquer. The neck is carved from a single piece of highly flamed Maple with a medium/large C-shape and depth measurements of .893" at the first fret tapering up to .992" at the twelfth. The neck is finished in satin Tru-oil giving it a smooth non-tacky feel. It has a figured Pau Ferro fretboard with a 10"-14" compound radius, 6105 frets and a 1.63" bone nut. It has a two-way truss rod that is easily accessed at the neck joint. It has an Asher vintage style Tele bridge with brass saddles and Gotoh vintage style tuners. The electronics include Lollar '52 single coils and Emerson wiring harness. Everything on this guitar is top notch!

While based on the traditional Tele formula, Chris has given this GT his own style, features that make this guitar both new and familiar at the same time. It plays superbly, like one of his high priced archtops. It is light, balanced and a joy to play. The tone is clearly that of a Telecaster, but with a bit of additional complexity, no doubt due to the Cedar body. Check out the brief sound sample included. This thing rings like a bell.

Built in 2016, this guitar could likely pass for new. It has no flaws of any significance and the frets look like new as well. It comes in a similarly mint thermometer style hardshell case.

If you love Teles (who doesn't?), you will love this GT. It is high quality, hand-made Tele-style instrument at a great price. Make it yours and enjoy!
