The Gibson Blues King is a fantastic parlor-styled acoustic from Gibson’s Montana Division of the early 1990s. It features a bound X-braced spruce top and bound dark-stained mahogany back and sides. The mahogany neck sports a dark rosewood fingerboard with 19 frets (the neck meeting the body at the 14th fret) and a rosewood bridge. The Blues King has a beautiful sunburst finish on the top with a tortoise pickguard, white-black-white rounded rosette, and gold ‘30s-style “Gibson” logo on its headstock. The nickel tuning machines have a nice wear to them that gives this little beauty a nicely aged look. It has a 25.5” scale and measures 1 23/32th” at the nut. The Blues King is a lightweight piece, coming in just a hair over 4 lbs (4 lbs 2 ounces). There are some pick scratches above the bass-hand side of the soundhole, light scratches on the side and back, and two small deeper scratches between the bottom of the neck and the soundhole as well as another small ding further down the top. Other than those minor issues this guitar is in great shape. The frets are still in excellent shape with lots of years ahead for them. It has been professionally setup by our in-house guitar tech and plays very comfortably. It has a versatile sound, adept at hard picking as well as gentle finger-style playing. Overall this fine small-bodied acoustic is an excellent playing guitar with a 1930s vintage look and feel. Includes original Gibson Montana hard shell case.
