1966 Gibson Country Western Model acoustic flat top guitar in excellent overall condition - with original Gibson softshell case - serial number 852xxx. This is a really really nice old Country Western Model, period. For a 50 year old guitar, she's in really great condition. First of all, the original frets are in wonderful shape! There is just the teeniest bit of 'grooving' on the first few frets, where those cowboy chords are played. There is lots of really nice finish checking throughout, which only adds to the wonderful vibe of this guitar. There really is not much in terms of scratches, at all - don't think this guitar saw a ton of action. There is a ding to the top, and a bit of wear around the edges of the headstock, but that really is about it - very clean, other than the finish checking which is to be expected with this old lacquer. Her natural top has 'ambered' nicely, and looks really great next to the vibrant translucent Cherry back, sides, and neck. Wonderful neck carve - slender, but not crazy skinny - just the right amount of meat on the back of the neck. Her tone is warm and even - not a huge and bright and cutting flatpicker tone - but an even and warm and articulate tone that loves to be finger picked as well as strummed. The songwriter will love this guitar. The bridge may have been reset at some point, but the job was pro - and this is only a bonus as she's totally solid. Bridge saddle appears to be rosewood. This is really nice action for a flat top - very comfortable and playable - easy to play, and inspiring to play. There is a very very slight soundhole crack coming off the treble side of the fingerboard, right where it meets the soundhole. Frequently referred to as a 'pick guard crack' - these are very very common, and this one is small. If our luthier believes it should be cleated, we'll do so prior to shipping out. As of now, it is super minor, and will probably close up when the humidity increases. This is a wonderful playing and great sounding old Country Western, and a killer example for any collection of Gibson vintage flat tops. Call 859-261-5500 for an in hand description. Thanks.
