Description

Offered here is Gibson Johnny Winter Firebird, number 74 of the 125 made between 2008 and 2009. This guitar was meticulously aged by Tom Murphy and the certificate card hand signed by Johnny. This guitar is virtually an exact copy of the well-played '63 Firebird V that Johnny made his livelihood with for several decades.

Specifications for this incredible instrument include a solid mahogany reversed style body with a dark Tobacco Burst nitrocellulose lacquer finish. This example has a total weight of 8.0 pounds. The neck is a nine-ply Mahogany/Walnut 'thru body' combination with a 24.75" scale length, 1-11/16" nut and depth measurements of .82" at the first fret increasing to .97" at the twelfth fret. The Rosewood fingerboard has a 12" radius with medium frets and single-ply cream binding and pearloid inlays. The electronic consist of two Firebird Mini-Humbuckers with volume and tone for each pickup along with a three-way toggle. The bridge is a well-worn Tune-o-matic with stopbar. The tuners are period-correct banjo-style.

I've seen my share of accurately aged instruments in my time, but few match the detail on this guitar. Gibson and Tom Murhpy went to great lengths to capture every minute detail of Johnny's well-worn guitar. Originally planned to be completed in just one year, I've read that the time-consuming aging process stretched this short run of guitars from one year to two.

Please check out the brief sound sample of this guitar. You can hear how well Gibson has replicated not only the well-aged look and feel of Johnny's Firebird, but the tone as well. It plays great too and the sleek neck feels great in your hands.

This instrument was collector-owned and has seen little play. It comes in it's original Johnny Winter Firebird case along with the hand-signed certificate of authenticity and accessories.

Dealers originally asked $11K for these limited run guitars back in 2008. Get this lightly played, but well aged example of this very limited run guitar for far less. Make this iconic piece of Rock music history yours today!
