Description

In 2005 guitarist Neal Schon was given this gorgeous SG by the folks at the Gibson Custom Shop. At that time, Neal had just entered into an artist endorsement deal with Gibson and together they would soon begin development of specialized LP-style instruments which would bear the guitarist's name. In the subsequent years, however, Neal's deal with Gibson didn't work out and he has since switched to PRS guitars which he will be using for the upcoming Santana reunion tour and for his subsequent work with his band Journey. More recently Neal has been selling off his Gibsons and other elements of his extensive guitar and amp collection, which is how I came to obtain this marvelous piece.

The SG Standard Authentic offered here was handmade for Neal by master builder Edwin Wilson who later went on to head the Gibson Custom Shop. The guitar was lightly aged by Tom Murphy before being presented to Neal. This SG weighs just 6.6 pounds and is nicely balanced. The neck has depth measurements of .845" at the first fret and .935" at the twelfth fret. The guitar is completely original and as it was when given to Neal. The setup is superb and the tone is as you would hope it to be; fat and woody! The frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original black Gibson Custom case with all the original paperwork and accessories, plus an additional certificate signed by Neal which confirms his prior ownership of this instrument.

Besides being a great playing and sounding Custom Shop SG, this instrument also represents a collectible piece of American rock music history. With Gibson asking $4.5K for a new Custom Shop SG Standard, the price of this highly-collectible guitar is quite extraordinary. Make it yours!
