Description

Emmylou Harris has long been an elegant and tasteful singer/guitarist. In 2002, Gibson designed an Emmylou 'Signature' guitar and hit the mark on both points. This particular example dates from the earliest batch, likely 2002, and consequently, shows a different body shape than later examples.
The guitar was built to Emmylou's specs, and exhibits top notch materials and workmanship. The body and neck are beautifully figured maple, sporting a rich tobacco sunburst. The top is spruce, bound in multi black/white binding. The back is bound as well and is inlaid with a colorful marquetry strip. The bridge is rosewood, inlaid with pearl, and modeled on the venerable J-200 'mustache' bridge. The pickguard in engraved and inlaid with pearl dots. The bound rosewood fingerboard is inlaid with the traditional Gibson inlays. Attention to detail is evident in the Gibson 'point' at the terminus of the board. There is a typical Gibson adjustable truss rod under the board. The headstock is bound and overlaid in black, with a chevron and Gibson inlaid in pearl. The tuners are gold plated.
The body measures 14 7/8" across the lower bout, and the scale length is 24 7/8". The fingerboard measures 1 9/16" across at the nut. Inside the sound hole is a red Gibson label with the model name, serial number and Emmylou's signature.
There is also an inboard sound source installed, with a jack in the end pin.
This guitar is in mint condition, has never had any repairs, and is set up perfectly. It plays smoothly up the neck, and produces a punchy and robust sound, expected from a maple-bodied guitar. Comes with a very clean and rugged Cedar Creek hard case with gold-plush lining. Check out the sound clip.
