OK, so you know you want a 59 ES-335 but you keep hearing about all these variations..."transitional neck"..."thin top"..."shallow neck angle" and so on. Most of the 59's you're going to see have the "transitional neck" because that's what most of them have. It's not terribly large and it's not the neck that 59's are famous for. You want the early big round neck that measures .90" at the first fret and close to a full inch at the 12th. "Thin top" 335's are largely a 58 thing but a few dozen escaped from the factory in 1959 (and three or four in 1960). Most folks aren't aware these things even exist. If you can find a 59 with a thin top, buy it. They are the best of the best. This is a very early 59 (January) so it still retains some of the 58 features. It has the very desirable thin top (with no cracks around the jack). It has the big, fat neck. . It has a fairly shallow neck angle-not as shallow as the early 58's but the bridge is lightly shaved on the treble side to get the action a little lower. It is a no excuses, collector grade 9+ condition monster guitar. Original right down to the tuner tips and the frets. There is no checking, no wear and only a few tiny scrapes-one at the edge on top and one under the pickguard bracket. The finish shines like new and is a vibrant as the day it left the factory. It sounds amazing and it plays beautifully. It has its original small frets which show almost no wear. This is one of the cleanest 59's I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of them). Clean Gibson badged brown with pink case.
