In 1962, Gibson introduced the block marker ES-335 to replace the dot marker version that made its debut in 1958. Most folks know that dot necks were the norm from 58-61 but they don't realize that a few dot necks were shipped in 1962. There were 700 red 62's shipped but it's hard to know just how many of them were dot necks. Out of hundreds of 58-65 ES-335's that I've bought and sold, I've seen only two dot neck 62's. I'd be surprised if there are 50 of them. Of that, how many are red? This guitar is well played but still plays and sounds just great. It has a few issues. The neck pickup rout was widened slightly for a P90 and then filled. It is not visible with the pickup ring on. The tailpiece is a repro as are the pickup covers. Both pickups are PAFs. The neck pickup is missing most of its label. The tuners are repro but the originals, in need of two tips, are in the case. Shows moderate wear including some buckle rash, case rash and some flaking on the back. Plenty of checking. The guitar has been re-fretted and the nut has been replaced. Nice original Lifton case.
