1913 Gibson F-4 Excellent, Original Hard, $5,200.00
Mid-teens Gibson F-4 mandolin SN. 20793 (FON. 2339)
This fine old F-4 is entirely original though it is missing the little metal bail that helps attach the pick guard to the edge of the body. Nevetheless, the pick guard is firmly attached via the pins in the fret board and thus doesn't vibrate when played and isn't in danger of coming off. The mandolin is quite clean, it does show some signs of handling from years of play but over all is cleaner than most century old instruments. The back and sides show very nice fiddle back figure in the maple. The original finish on the body shows far less wear than average. The neck finish is worn down to the wood in some spots but some of the finish remains. There are no cracks or other damage to the instrument. It appears that the back was loose at some point in the past and re-glued, and there is a little bit of over-hang of the binding in two spots. The flower pot headstock inlay, inlaid "Handel" tuner buttons and original mother of pearl nut add elegant touches to this handsome old mando. The instrument has just had its fret board planed flat and re-fretted and the action set and the set up is perfect. The neck is straight and the action set at 4/64" with .010-.034" strings. The mandolin has great tone, sustain and volume. Comes with the original hard case, which is sufficient for protecting the mandolin but the locking latch is gone and it needs a new handle (the two remaining latches hold the lid closed securely). If an item is going to be returned it is at the buyer's expense and the item must be shipped within 24 hours of the buyer notifying Kovacik Guitars of intent to return. Any returned items must be shipped in the original packaging and MUST be fully insured when returned. Once an item is returned to Kovacik Guitars and judged to be in the same condition as when originally sold a full refund will be issued.
