Description

6 lbs. 15 oz.

Want a real mid-70's V with a few issues at a huge discount? Here ya go!

This one at some point got painted black... then that got stripped off back to the original natural finish. However, the paint remains in places on the back, under the pickguard and headstock. The pickguard has cracked, pickup surrounds added and the original tarback pickups were pulled out. We've replaced them a pair of Killer Vintage Betterbuckers for great PAF style tone. A 500$ value in pickups alone...

One of the pots was replaced but two are original.

Comes with OHSC.

1975 Gibson Flying V — now that’s a cool piece of rock history!

The Flying V had kind of an unusual journey. Gibson first introduced it back in 1958 alongside the Explorer, and while it was too ahead of its time to be a commercial hit in the '50s, it became iconic later — especially for hard rock and heavy metal players.

The 1975 reissue is significant because it marked Gibson’s revival of the model after its initial run ended in 1959. These '70s Vs have a different vibe compared to the '50s originals:

Body: Mahogany, with that sharp, almost futuristic V shape.

Neck: Usually a chunky mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard.

Pickups: Typically fitted with a pair of Gibson "Tarback" humbuckers (the epoxy-potted, black epoxy back kind), which have a distinct, slightly hotter output.

Bridge: The '70s models often had the Gibson Tune-o-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece.

Headstock: The headstock was often larger, more in line with the Norlin-era designs.

Players like Albert King and later Rudolf Schenker (of Scorpions fame) helped solidify the Flying V’s status as a rock weapon.

If you're looking at one, they’ve become quite collectible — not as expensive as a '58 original, but '75s are sought after, especially if all-original and in good condition.
