FON 3988 2. Here is a fun guitar that’s easy to play and easy to pull great tone from. Handsome J-45 from 1950 with some touchups and repairs but it sounds as great as it looks. I took this in trade from another dealer with original with worn frets and a poor neck angle. A recent neck reset and refret by Mark Tossman has dialed this back in to the original specs. It now plays as good as it looks and sounds. The top is 90% clean and fresh looking with areas of touchup around the fingerboard where, on the bass side at least, there was some significant wear. There is a little touchup around the sound hole as well. On the treble side, there is a crack that runs parallel to the fingerboard that has been well repaired. It’s been reinforced underneath with a Martin-style Popsicle brace. The brace is likely an abundance of caution but all is stable and it doesn’t seem to affect the tone. The top and sides have light checking, the back a little worming from buckle or buttons. The neck is smooth and comfortable. Inside shows the original bridge plate, two scalloped tone bars and knife-blade back braces; all as it should be and pretty much the same configuration as the original wartime design (without the colossal neck profile). Comes with a grade B newer hardshell case.
