Up for sale is a stunning 1947 Gibson J-50 in its original natural finish. This example features a spruce top with mahogany back and sides, chunky 40s era neck profile with a 1 11/16 nut width and a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Overall this instrument is in wonderful condition for its 74 years of age. There is scattered finish checking throughout the body of the guitar, a small amount of bellying behind the bridge, finish "burn" or rash located on the back and bottom of the body. The action is low to medium measuring 4mm on the bass side and 3mm on the treble at the 12th fret. The saddle is about as low as it will go and if lower action is desired this instrument would need a neck reset. I believe the action is fair and the guitar plays quite well. The FON on this instrument is 605 - 35. The dating guide we use states 1947 700s to 1000s. Given this instrument has a chunky neck and no script logo (seen in 1946) we dated it to 1947 due to the proximity to its rage. Pro setup in house and comes complete with a vintage hard case.
