Description

Here we have a 1957 Gibson J45 acoustic guitar with serial Letter “U” stamped with the serial number designating 1957. This guitar was played hard for five (5) decades in a traveling SC bands in the old days, as you can see from the wear on the front, but back and sides are super clean with one chip in top side binding. Wood, bridge, saddle etc., finish all original with the exception of the work noted below.

The puppy was ridden hard and put away wet with a pickup installed in 70’s (?), then at some time in the 70’s a headstock break & repair done by a local DIY good old’ boy. Headstock was repaired then dipped in polyurethane several times then played decades more in perfect tune, till you could barely make out the logo through the decades old smoky poly and played for decades till owner passed away a year or so ago.

The guitar was dropped off at noted SC luthier Joe Wilson in Charleston and headstock completely stripped very, very carefully, repaired the repair the correct way, put on a 60’s or 70s logo inlay, a new set of period correct Kluson “Lima Bean” tuners and an absolutely gorgeous solid refin the headstock and back of neck. Also did a refret of the frets that were played to the nubs. Headstock looks brand new guitar plays beautifully

As you can see from the play wear on the front this guitar was played heavily in bands through five (5) decades and the reason is it sounds woody and even as you would expect.

If you want to get into a vintage Gibson acoustic that plays well and is ready to be gigged with, along with the working vintage pickup then this is the guitar at a fraction of the cost. The 2022 Guide Book on a very clean 57’ is upwards towards the $6k mark. Complete set up, new strings and ready to play for many more decades at only $3k with non original hard case.
