Description

Summary: The Gibson L-48 was introduced after World War II as a simple archtop acoustic. There was some variation as to the wood used on the body through the '40s. This particular Gibson has been dated with the FON # that starts with “V”. This beautiful guitar is missing the original pickguard & we will ship it with an aftermarket hardshell acoustic guitar case.

Body: Hollowbody archtop acoustic with a mahogany top & sides & a maple back. The top & the back are fully bound on this wonderful instrument.

Neck: Mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays,

Pickups/Hardware: This instrument has no electronics, chrome hardware, Kluson Deluxe style tuning keys, rosewood bridge.

Cosmetics: This instrument shows wear & tear normally associated with a guitar that is more than 50 years old – there are scratches, dings, nicks on the body and a few dings on the back of the neck. The pickguard was removed and it looks like one hole was filled on the top of the body – the hole for the pickguard on the side of the body is still there. The end pin is missing. This instrument has some fabulous checking throughout the top of the body. There are no cracks or breaks.

Playability: This vintage Gibson plays pretty good – we recently set this up with a new set of 12’s and the action is low & the guitar plays great up & down the fingerboard. The frets are in good shape & have a lot of life left in them (the frets have been replaced at some time in the past)

Modifications: The tuning keys are probably replacement keys and it looks like the frets have been professionally replaced sometime in the past.

Weight: 4 lbs, 13 oz.

Case: Hardshell acoustic guitar case made by the Gator Cases Company
