1987 Gibson LES PAUL CUSTOM Black, Excellent, GigBag, $2,995.00

Les Paul, you gotta love him. Seems to have signed about a zillion guitars but just try to find one for sale, since most seem to have been done in erasable pen, which usually got erased. Not this one. Scratched it right into the finish with what might’ve been an ice pick (I knew Les, and he was totally capable of something like that, would’ve thought it hilarious). Says “To Les/Keep Picking/Les Paul” right on the top, autographed to another guy named Les. The guitar itself is a Les Paul Custom, in beautiful glossy black, and all perfectly set up to beat the band. Take note that an extremely good eye will find that it was originally made with a Kahler or similar tremolo unit, and got the area around the tailpiece filled in and the body finished over or refinished at the Gibson factory, long before Les ever signed it. Similarly there are little screw holes behind the nut where a locking nut had once been, and the letters “sec” are above the serial number on the back of the peghead. Bottom line though is that it’s a serious Les Paul Custom, plays and sounds like the best of them are supposed to, and that it was autographed by The Master himself. And it’s a bargain. $2995 w/bag
