Description

Summary: Introduced in 1959, the Melody Maker was Gibson's flagship entry-level solid body guitar. Initially offered in three iterations-- a standard model with a lone single-coil pickup, a 3/4 sized model, and a Melody Maker 'D' dual pickup model - The original run of Melody Makers was discontinued in 1971. This particular Gibson is from early 1965 and it has 2 pickups, a wonderfully aged cherry red finish & it sounds and plays great.

Body: Mahogany solid body, double cutaway with a black pickguard.

Neck: Mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, dot inlays, 24.75” scale length, 1 11/16” nut width.

Pickups/Hardware: 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs, 3-way switch, 2 original single coil pickups, original black pickguard, replaced Kluson Deluxe tuning keys.

Cosmetics: There are normal signs of wear such as dings & scratches on the body, lots of pick scratches on the pickguard, beautiful vintage checking throughout the finish & a little wear around the edges – all consistent with a well-loved & played Gibson from the mid 1960’s.

Playability: We put a new set of 10’s on this fabulous Gibson & it plays and sounds fantastic. It is also incredibly light-weight but it still has a very heavy, rich tone. The action is low & the guitar plays great up & down the fingerboard.

Modifications: The original tuning keys have been replaced with
Kluson Deluxe 3-in-line single line tuning keys & the original Tremolo system is missing the tremolo arm.

Weight: 5 lbs, 8 oz.

Case: This vintage Gibson comes with a non-original hard-shell case & it does include the original tuning keys & part of the tremolo system – although the actual whammy bar is missing.
