Description

Offered here is a very desirable and relatively hard to find Gibson model, a '63 ES-335 TDC, the version of which was built between 2013 and 2018. This lovely example was built in the second year of this model run and is in excellent condition.

This version of the '63 ES 335 was introduced in 2013 as their "50th Anniversary" model. It is (was) built at Gibson's former Memphis factory using vintage tooling so as to be much more like the original upon which it is based with a more period-accurate body shape, light weight center block, nylon nut and saddles and using natural hide glues. A VOS (light aging) treatment makes it look, feel and play more like a vintage instrument. You will find these often in our inventory (when we can get them), simply because we love them. Gibson continued making this model until 2018 due to popular demand. Gibson is now offering a '64 Reissue which is nearly identical, but even these are very hard to find, particularly in this cherry finish.

This guitar (serial number 00268) was built 2014 and has a medium C-shaped neck with depth measurements of .83" at the first fret increasing to .97" at the twelfth fret. This one weighs just 7.8 pounds (7 pounds, 13 ounces). Other key specs include: a 24.75" string scale; a 1.70" nylon nut; a 12" radius fretboard made of nicely dark rosewood; Burstbucker pickups; and an ABR-1 bridge with stop bar tailpiece. The guitar is finished in Sixties Cherry nitrocellulose lacquer, with cream binding, aged hardware and the light patina of Gibson's VOS treatment.

This guitar looks and feels like the real deal. It plays superbly too, with a nice low setup with no buzzing. It sounds great too; check out the provided sound sample - this guitar gives you the nice fat, woody tone that the very best Gibson ES guitars are known for. I've also attached a video of the great Greg Koch playing one of the guitars from this run, although not this exact guitar.

This 2014 guitar is in excellent condition with just the factory VOS aging patina, some very light evidence of play on the pickguard and some very light body scuffing that you can only see from the right angle and in just the right lighting. As shown in the included photos, the frets are in great condition as well. It comes in it's original and period correct black Gibson case with the gold lining along with the Certificate of Authenticity.

As noted, these are relatively hard to find, particularly in the 60's Cherry finish. The '64 Reissue Gibson is currently offering is also hard to find and goes for $5,299.
