Description

Offered here is yet another example of one of our favorite Gibson models of recent years, a '63 ES 335 Block Reissue. This version of the '63 ES 335 was introduced in 2013 as their "50th Anniversary" model. It is (was) built at Gibson's former Memphis factory using vintage tooling so as to be much more like the original upon which it is based with a more period-accurate body shape, light weight center block, nylon nut and saddles and using natural hide glues. A VOS (light aging) treatment makes it look, feel and play more like a vintage instrument. You will find these often in our inventory (when we can get them), simply because we love them. Gibson continued making this model until 2018 due to popular demand. More recently, Gibson began building a '64 Reissue version of this guitar out of their newer Nashville plant.

This particular example (serial number 70312) was built 2017. It has his a medium C-shaped neck with depth measurements of .85" at the first fret increasing to .995" at the twelfth fret. This one weighs just 7.8 pounds. Other key specs include: a 24.75" string scale; a 1.70" nylon nut; a 12" radius fretboard made of nicely dark rosewood; MHS humbucker pickups; and an ABR-1 bridge with stop bar tailpiece. The guitar is finished in Sixties Cherry nitrocellulose lacquer, with cream binding, aged hardware and the light patina of Gibson's VOS treatment.

This guitar looks and feels like the real deal. It plays superbly too, with a nice low setup with no buzzing. It sounds great too; check out the provided sound sample - this guitar gives you the nice fat, woody tone that Gibson ES guitars are known for and this one is really alive!

Built in 2017, this guitar has been played, but carefully. It is difficult to separate the VOS aging from the light play wear. The only flaw of any significance is an "amp lean" impression on the high side back of the neck that is shown in the photos. I didn't notice it when playing it for what that is worth. Otherwise, just a bit of pick wear on the guard is all I find in the way of cosmetic flaws. It comes in it's similarly nice and original black tolex case with the era-correct gold lining, along with the certificate of authenticity.

Along with the Les Paul Standard, the Telecaster and the Stratocaster, the ES 335 has to be among the most iconic electric guitar models ever made and this model, in my opinion, is Gibson's best effort at building a truly accurate reissue of this guitar. Every guitar arsenal or collection should include one. Make this fine beauty yours!
