Made for Nick Lucas
One of the Two Last NLs
Unique Configuration As Per Nick Lucas
The penultimate Nick Lucas, serial #96001, ordered and owned by Nick Lucas himself, records show it was picked up by NL on 9/7/41 from Gibson , along with the adjacent serial #, 96002, the very last Nick Lucas. Production on the model had officially ended in 1938, with just these two being made for Lucas three years later.
The configuration is very interesting and different from all other NLs. It's the early small body size, but with 14 frets to the body, Gibson's standard 24 3/4" scale and X-braced. All of the earlier small bodied NLs were 12-fret, shorter scale and A or H braced. In keeping with Lucas' preference, the body is finished in flat black and the back has a layer of felt attached, which Lucas specified to lessen the tendency for the guitar to slip on his chest while playing. The body is all mahogany. There are photos showing Nick playing the the other one, #49002.
This guitar is in virtually mint condition and all parts appear to be original. The string action is very low, the frets have a bit of wear, and for perfect setup the frets should be leveled. The truss rod is fully functional and we have adjusted it to the proper setting.
Our "Cash price" policy: unfortunately, the credit card companies support "swiped" charges in which the card is physically run through the card reader. Phone-in charges are charged at a much higher rate (to the seller) which can take quite a big chunk out of a high-dollar sale. Thus, for those call-in sales, let's discuss the issue at the time; hopefully, we can figure some way to deal with it.
