Description

1935 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe in very good condition. This Gibson has a replacement Brazilian rosewood bridge, a very slightly oversized replacement bridgeplate, and two small holes above the strapbutton from a previously installed tailpiece. Tom converted this Roy Smeck to Spanish style. The process involved: neck reset, neck reshaping taking the nut width down from 2 1/8" to 1 13/16", adding a 1/2" aluminum square tube to stiffen the neck, and adding a new bridge with a compensated saddle. The neck finish is a spot on match of the original done using the same techniques as Gibson used in this time period. The neck reinforcement makes for a stiff neck that will not bend from string tension. The material we use has the same mass as the wood removed and does not color the sound. This Smeck was constructed with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, and a Brazilian rosewood replacement bridge. The "C" shaped neck has a width of 1 13/16" at the nut, and a depth of 0.88” at the first fret and 1.04” at the ninth fret. The guitar has a 24 3/4” scale length and weighs 4.06 lbs. A big sounding, responsive guitar with a well balanced sound that features a particularly striking sunburst finish. Comes with the original chipboard case.
