1962 Gibson SG/Les Paul Custom White

PAFs have gotten so expensive, it has started to affect the prices of some of the less popular PAF equipped guitars. ES-175's, L5's, Switchmasters and, yes, even SG Customs. At current PAF prices, more than half the value of some of these guitars is in the pickups. To be honest, I could probably part out this beautiful 62 Custom and get more money for it. But that's not me. Three covered PAFs are worth close to $15000 in todays market. That said, SG/Les Paul Customs are wonderful guitars if a little quirky. They are also one of the prettiest guitars ever made. This 62 is in excellent condition and is all original including the teeny "fretless wonder" frets. If you think you are going to take this guitar out and play blues on it with big string bends, you will need to put on some bigger frets. If you want the unique experience of playing a "fretless wonder", this is a great example. They are a joy to play. It's not that you can't bend the notes...you can but you won't get a full step up without fretting out. Third pickup in the way? Depends how you play. Some folks lower the middle pickup. What's kind of cool (and quirky) is the tone in the middle position-honky out of phase tones a bit like a cocked wah wah. Some folks put the middle back in phase but this one hasn't been messed with. With any SG, you have to inspect the neck join. Any stress cracks in the cutaways? If yes, pass it by. Any repair to the heel? Bye bye to that one as well. All SG's are fragile but get a good one and they are wonderful to play. This one has no structural issues. The neck is slim but not too slim. The fingerboard is wide. It is all original. It appears that the covers have been off the pickups at some point but there is no sign of a rewind. That's the only issue. It is a true collector grade Custom. Weight is 7.5 lbs.
