Argue with me if you want but I think that 64 (and late 63 and early 65) SG's are the best years. All of them are fragile so you look for one with no heel issues. That means no repair, no seam separation and no stress cracks in the finish inside the cutaways. That's a tall order on an SG as those stress cracks are really common. They don't necessarily mean the neck is compromised but if they aren't there you can be sure it isn't. This has none of those neck issues. It is kind of unusual in that it appears to have been shipped with a short Maestro and a wrap tail  like a Special. It is not a converted Special-you can tell by the routs. It is now set up as a stop tail (the wrap tail studs are filled) and is a great player with no major issues. There are some changed parts-the bridge is from a 65 (nickel pat. number), the tailpiece looks like a repro or a later 60's. Pickups are the original early patent number-one is missing its sticker. They have been opened but the solder to the harness is untouched so they have never been out of the guitar and therefore never re-wound. Tuners are correct single line double ring Klusons. Neck is that great medium chunky 64 profile that is just so perfect for so many players. SG prices have gotten a little out of control lately and finding a player grade with no neck issues is hard. You can pay $18K and still have stress cracks in the cutaways. Pay less than half for this one and know that it is stable and reliable. Wonderful tone-this is a pretty aggressive guitar-bright and snarly. More photos coming. Original hard case.
