1944/45 Banner Gibson SJ
Description
No FON/SN. Terrific sounding banner Gibson SJ in exceptional condition that has come to me in trade. There is no FON but the specs suggest 1944-1945. The warmth of the iced tea burst is matched only by the warm and woody tone of this fine guitar. Being a later banner, the neck is a very comfortable C shape of a reasonable size. A recent neck rest and refret has it playing very smoothly with perfect intonation and the saddle is tall enough to accommodate future adjustments. These SJs are handsome beasts with their multi-bound top, fancier fretboard inlays than a J-45, multi-ply bindings and rosette and rosewood belly down bridge. There are a couple of blemishes notably some playwear east of the sound hole and part of the banner has rubbed away and a scratch in the side that has been darkened to “go away”. Otherwise, this is a very clean instrument that has received a lifetime of care. I have matched it with a very clean mid-40’s Lifton case that came with a mid-40s J-45.
