Description

1953 Gibson Southern Jumbo in excellent condition. Introduced in 1944, the Gibson Southern Jumbo was the top of the line flat top acoustic in Gibson’s catalogue. All SJ’s featured a sunburst finish, up until 1954 when the natural top was offered. Natural top Southern Jumbos are incredibly rare, only 15 were made before they turned into the Country Western. This blonde SJ is both stunning by appearance and it’s tone. Factory order number is Y5039 35 which dates to 1953, making this quite possibly the first Blonde SJ made by Gibson. Mahogany back and sides with spruce top. Fingerboard binding, Brazillian rosewood fingerboard with pearloid twin parallelogram inlays, and Brazillian rosewood bridge. This guitar is dressed nicely with some checking. Very light on dings and dents, finish still has it’s factory shine. Some regular pick scratching on the top as seen in photos. Fresh neck reset done in the shop gives this guitar excellent playability and feel. Bridge and tuners are original, look great and function properly. Two small professionally repaired cracks on the top, they are perfectly lined up and hardly visible as seen in photos. Tonal response on this instrument is big and bold, with round bass and clear trebles. Overall, a rare blonde Southern Jumbo in stunning shape and well cared for. Comes with the original hard shell case.
