Here we have a nice example of a turn-of-the-century Gibson A mandolin.

Dating these is a little wonky, but there are some features that remain undisturbed on this instrument that help. The "pineapple" shaped bridge cover, bridge, pickguard and peghead shape (with no logo), the label type and serial number all lend to this being a 1908. As compared to other serial numbered instruments with the same appointments, this seems to be accurate.

There are no cracks and the neck is in great shape. There was some superficial work done to the front of the headstock where a glue seam often requires some attention. The headstock is sound and not cracked. The original bridge, tailpiece, pickguard and tuners are all intact. The pickguard is missing the clamp that would otherwise hold it to the side of the instrument.

Overall, a beautiful mandolin and a true survivor that has seen plenty of use in its life but lived solidly to tell the tale.
