Description

An exceptional Gretsch 6130 Round Up, in very good condition.

A true cowboy’s guitar that has a lot more to it than what first meets the eye. First of all regarding the aspect of the guitar, one could say it would be perfectly suiting in the hands of a rodeo halftime show performer: the nicely aged Orange lacquer finish, the bridge saddles reminiscent of the shape of spurs, the belt buckle adorning the tailpiece depicting a scene of riders returning to camp at sunset, the leather strap engraved with western motifs encircling the edge of the guitar, the horseshoe-shaped headstock inlay… certainly no expense spared here!

The guitar is equipped with two Filterton humbucking pickups engraved with “Patent Applied For” – the late 1950s marks the appearance of this new style of pickup, developed on one hand by Ray Butts for Gretsch and Seth Lover for Gibson on the other, launching an all out race to obtain the first patent for the device. It is rather uncommon to find a 6130 model equipped with Filtertrons, as they for the most part got the older DeArmond single coil pickup. This adds to the overall appeal of the present instrument. Furthermore, these specific pickups have an incredible sound with very tight compression on the attack, unlike anything we’d ever heard before. Each pickup has its separate volume control, then both run through a master tone switch and a master volume control.

The original cellulose pickguard having suffered degradation, it was removed to prevent further damage both to it and to the metal parts which can be affected by oxydation. A new pickguard was made as an exact reproduction of the original. Complete professional setup done at our workshop, in perfect playing condition.

Comes in its original hardshell case.
