Description

Some exceptional guitars pass through our shop on a fairly regular basis, so it typically takes a particularly amazing instrument to get us excited. Offered here is a guitar that easily meets that threshold, an amazing Bluesmaster Custom 59 by Johan Gustavsson of Sweden. This instrument was built to be as close as humanly possible to equal the feel, play and tone characteristics of a real '59 LP.

Most guitarists who have played one of Johan's guitars would not dispute that he is making some of the finest electric guitars currently available. Each of his works is in itself a masterpiece which he has somehow bestowed with a tone, look and feel that is reminiscent of a well preserved 50's vintage classic. Along with a very desirable vintage vibe, however, you also get modern specs, a build quality that is beyond reproach and playability that few real vintage electrics can match.

Built in consultation with session pro Matte Henderson, this Bluesmaster Custom 59 served as one of two prototypes for Johan's later Bluesmaster Limited model. It respresents Johan's best attempt to replicate the build, feel and tone qualities of the venerable Gibson '59 LP and is among the best interpretations of this classic electric that you can find anywhere, at any price. It's specs include: a one piece old growth Honduran Mahogany body with a one-piece flamed Maple top, well faded cherry burst nitrocellulose finish, moderate distressing and a total guitar weight of just 8.6 pounds (8 pounds, 10 ounces); a 24.75" string scale Honduran Mahogany neck with extended tenon, a "Matte V" shape and depth measurements of .95" at the 1st fret and 1.00" at the 12th; a gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with 12" radius and 1.685" bone nut; a Gustavsson intonatable wraparound bridge piece; and for electronics, uncovered Throbak SLE humbuckers with LP style controls and wiring.

The feel of this guitar is decidedly LP-like, but few LP's you will ever play sound or play as well as this instrument. In my humble opinion, only a Gil Yaron LP-style instrument approaches this guitar in it's ability to beat and exceed a vintage LP at it's own game. The voice of this guitar is incredible; please check out the brief sound sample included below.

This guitar was distressed by Johan to give it the look and feel of a well-played and well-loved vintage piece and the results are exquisitely accurate. The frets are near flawless. It comes in it's original and near mint G&G / JG brown case with the certificate of authenticity.

If a ultra-high quality LP style guitar is on your wish list, you cannot do much better than this incredible Gustavsson Bluesmaster. Save thousands of dollars and a long wait versus a new example. Incredible....
