Description

The H1270 is arguably the best 12-string made by the Harmony company, and they made their share over the years. The H1270 had an eight year run, and has received some notoriety because several rock & rollers have used them, including Pete Townsend of the Who. But for my money, 'the' best was Mike Russo back in the day...he really put the H1270 through its paces, and was a great singer, too!
These jumbo guitars are a sort-of stubby dread shape, 12-frets to the body. The body is mahogany, topped with spruce. The sound hole purfling is inlaid (not painted) and the body is bound in white front and back. The celluloid-bound fingerboard is Brazilian, and radiused. The body measures 16 1/8" across at the lower bout, and the scale length is 25 1/4". The fingerboard measures just under 2", and is a flat 'C' shape, very comfortable to play.
It appears the guitar had a semi-recent neck set, and the action is set at 8/64". The body is crack-free, and retains a nice luster. The plastic heel cap is missing. The original bridge is gone and replaced with a nicely made bone bridge/saddle set up. We think this was purposefully done. The neck was set back almost like an arch top, and the tall bridge creates great down pressure on the on the top which really drives the top under tension. Subsequently, it's no accident that this Harmony 12 is by far the best sounding one we've played! The sound is full and strong, with great sustain and the classic 12-string ring. Check out the sound clip. Comes with a soft case.
