This custom guitar is the product of collaboration between myself and Randy Springis of Karge (pronounced KAHR-ghee) Guitars. Randy is an extremely talented woodworker who specializes in fine furniture restoration and killer guitar building.

This guitar's design originated in the depth of the COVID pandemic. I replied to a Danocaster post on Instagram, whishing that I had said "MINE" faster when Dan listed a really nice Thinline build. Someone replied: "You should check out my Thinline!" A conversation sparked with Randy about his custom builds.

I bought a couple completed builds from Randy and was pleasantly surprised with his take on classis Tele and Strat guitars, completely hand built and finished in his small Massachusetts shop.

Then I stumbled into a pair of older Duncan Antiquiti humbuckers, and the thought came to me - we should build a guitar around these!

Randy had a really nice mahogany Thinline body in the shop. I waffled on finish choice, at first thinking it would be cool to have a Goldtop tele with binding and a mahogany body with kick ass humbuckers. Randy came back with the suggestion of an ocean turquoise blue top with the back and sides finished in natural to show the mahogany and I was sold.

The result is this beautiful guitar.

The neck is a sweet and unique soft V shape, hand carved from a really nice piece of flamed maple. Note the layers between the Indian rosewood fretboard and the maple neck -a distinct Karge feature. The neck has a very gradual taper from the nut to the body, something that definitely feels different than most guitars but really works well. The fret work is fantastic as well. The hand fitted bone nut tops it off.

Controls are like a Les Paul or a Telecaster Deluxe - one volume and one tone knob per pickup. Nice Emerson pots and bumble bee caps are nearly soldered in the control cavity. Unlike the Tele Deluxe, controls and solders are rear loaded for easy access. The bridge is a Callaham and the tuners are Kluson style Gotohs.

Even the control covers are custom - they are cut from solid wood and nitro finished, like the rest of the guitar, and they also show some checking - a really nice touch!

The one rub with the guitar is more appearance based. The bridge pickup pole piece spacing is narrower than the strings. I've spent a good amount of time with this guitar and can say that it is not an issue at all, however.

Randy's guitars are beautiful, unique works that can't be matched for the price. I can only imagine how many hours he pours into these builds. The value to the buyer is unmatched.

Note the serial number on the neck plate. MVG 001 means that this is the first Karge build for Mahar's Vintage Guitars. KG036 means this is Karge's 36th serial numbered instrument.

A certificate of authenticity and a nice hardshell case are included.
