Description

We certainly qualify as "guitar snobs" here at Capital Guitars and tend to prefer and stock the more expensive guitar lines, but that doesn't mean that we don't appreciate a great value in a lesser priced instrument. Offered here is a great guitar at a great price, a Larrivee Bakersfield, built in California in 2013.

Larrivee is a Canadian builder known primarily for their acoustic guitars, but they also made electric guitars here in the United States for a few years, including this line of very high quality Fender-style instruments which they introduced at the 2011 Summer NAMM show. Larrivee has since discontinued making electrics, as the cost of producing these guitars became prohibitive.

The specs for this fine Bakersfield include an Alder body with forearm and belly contours and a nitro lacquer Surf Green finish. The neck is made from a single piece of quarter-sawn Maple which is lightly finished for a dry, non-tacky feel. The neck shape is a chunky C patterned after a real '52 Tele, with depth measurements of .875" at the first fret and .950" at the twelfth. Rare for a Bakersfield, this one has an Indian Rosewood fretboard with a 12"-16" compound radius and 6105 fret wire. The relatively wide 1.75" nut width makes this an ideal electric for those who often play acoustic guitars. The bridge and saddles are from Callahan, long known to make the best hardware for T and S style guitars. The electronics include pickups and pots by Seymour Duncan, a paper-in-oil cap, a CRL three-way switch and an input jack by Switchcraft. Larrivee spared no expense when selecting the components for these fine guitars. This guitar is a little chunky weight-wise, coming in at 8.0 lbs. But as they say, mass makes for great tone!

Not only did Larrivee use high quality components, they put these together very well too. This guitar has the look, feel, playability and tone of a Tele costing far, far more. The smooth dry feel of the neck and the fine fret work make it a pleasure to play and the body contours make it comfortable to play as well. It sounds like a far more expensive Tele too; please check out the brief sound sample provided. This Bakersfield can cook with the best of them!

This guitar is in near mint condition with little to no evidence of play, frets included. It comes in a really nice vintage-style Larrivee hardshell case as well.

If you have been looking for a high-quality T-style guitar at an excellent price, this Bakersfield warrants your consideration. A great Tele buy IMHO!
