2009 Lowden Bensusan Excellent, Original Hard, $3,995.00

We’re guessing at the year of this spectacular and rare Lowden guitar, as George Lowden’s serial-numbering scheme is a bit opaque, though we love George and all his instruments dearly all the same. We’re probably not far off though as this model hasn’t been made for all that long, and it’s last owner thought he had had it “for a few years”. So….Made to the personal spec of noted and marvelously talented Pierre Bensusan, this model has its back and sides of AAAA-grade Honduran rosewood, and its top of extremely even-grained Adirondack spruce. With its cutaway body style and a bit of extra depth, all of its notes are robust and so clear, not only unique but fabulous. The action, as expected, is low and even, just perfect for all those wild fingerpicking glissandos and surreptitious undertones.
