Description

Martin 0-18 1964 | $2775 | (v2250) By the mid-sixties, baby boomers were hot into folk guitars and Martin produced the 0-18 in pretty decent numbers to help fill that need. In 1964, 550 0-18s were made and cost $150, so a mid-sixties hippie would surely need a job to afford one! The model has become a popular one with guitarists in the past decade or so, with much appreciation of the power and clarity of the small-bodied acoustic.

The top is spruce featuring a rosewood bridge, a faux-tortoise pick guard, multiple binding rings and edged in faux-tortoise celluloid binding. The back and sides are mahogany. The neck is mahogany and features a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The headstock is overlaid in Brazilian and sports the C.F. Martin decal in gold.

The body measures 13 1/2" across at the lower bout. Scale length is a comfortable 25". The fingerboard measures 1 11/16" across at the nut, and string spacing is 2 3/16" at the saddle.

The guitar came to us with a number of prior repairs including a neck reset, top crack repairs, glued braces, a removed strap pin, and a small overlay on the bridge plate. We re-glued a brace and leveled and dressed the frets.

The guitar appears to have been a road warrior but is set up and solid now. The original finish exhibits signs of use and wear. Like all the small-body Martins, it plays well and produces a sound bigger than one would expect, great projectiona and clarity .. great for fingerpicking and studio work.

Comes with its likely original soft case.
