1955 Martin D-18 w/hsc
This is a player grade '55 D-18 that has been completely refinished at some point in the past, hard to say how long ago but the top shows surface dings and play wear that suggest that it was some time ago. It does not appear as if the top/back or sides were sanded during the refin though, as the thickness of the woods is appropriate. The surface quality and thickness of the lacquer finish is well done. The bridge is replaced in ebony (rather than the correct rosewood). The bridge plate is original and in good condition and all the interior bracing is original, though the X and tone bars have been lightly scalloped (see pics). The pickguard is replaced as well. The Sitka top is very well quartered and shows very nice silking in the grain as well as bear claw figure at the outer edges of the panels. The top has had the center seam reglued and cleated but has no cracks. The back and sides are crack free as well. The tuners are original. The guitar has had a neck set and the angle is perfect, and it has also been refretted with frets that are a bit larger than Martin factory standard frets. The action is a very comfortable 6/64" and 5/64" with lots of saddle showing, intonation is excellent. Big, woody and crisp sound, great flat picking guitar. There is a K & K passive pickup installed. Comes with a modern Martin 500 series hard case. Sound file available soon, will be posted to this listing as soon as I get it done.
